PROJECT OVERVIEW

Takeda is an Quant SBr application that provides

statisticians and PV scientist with a compliant and secure space to conduct their benefit-risk assessments for various drugs categories.

COMPANY

Takeda Pharmaceutical, MA, USA

My Role: User Analysis, Task Analysis, User Flow, Wireframe, Component Library, High Fidelity Prototype

CHALLENGE

Create a secure, user-friendly Quant sBR interface with customizable code sets and data visualizations that is highly accessible and provides optimum user experience to scientists and statisticians.

Problem Area

  • No system in place currently to manage Quant sBR analyses

  • No defined operating model to handle new analysis request from business users

  • Lack of access management mechanisms

Design Process

Identify users

Define characteristics of each

user persona to help design

a user centric solution

Wireframe & Final Mockup

Translate user persona & workflows into high fidelity wireframes to detail out UI/UX design

User Persona Study

Statistician

Motivators

  • Perform complex analysis on data to provide data driven business insights

  • Reduce time to insight

  • Improve re-usability of existing and newly developed assets

Tasks

  • Create Quant sBR analysis for study level or product level assessment

  • Prepare data for analysis

  • Collect inputs from business and functional SMEs to contextualize analysis with industry standards

  • Create visual insights for business teams to readily use in submission artifacts

Challenges

  • Data prep and analysis are time-consuming and need collaboration across users

  • Every statistician has a different way of performing analysis and artefacts are not re-used leading to re-work

  • Multiple requests from business users creates a backlog and stretches team resources

Business User

Motivators

  • Ready access to interactive visual insights based on complex analysis created by statisticians

  • Reduce time to insight

  • Improve re-usability of data driven insights across studies in similar indications

  • Extend use of application platform to newer use cases such as pooled data analysis

  • Readily available downloadable visualization that can be used directly in presentations

Tasks

  • Provide inputs to statisticians on analysis parameters based on industry standards

  • Help set functional context for complex data analysis

  • Present findings and what if scenarios to regulatory and safety review boards

Challenges

  • Every custom analysis takes some time to develop by the statisticians based on priority and workload

  • Visualizations are static and do not provide interactivity leading to multiple requests for what-if scenarios

Goal Statement

Introduce a standardized and structured way for benefit-risk analysis that will help provide statisticians
and PV scientist with a compliant and secure space to conduct their assessments.

User Flow

Defining the flow for create analysis and generating new analysis with custom end points.

UserTesting Insights

I conducted user testing with low fidelity mockups onto understand how users interact with the given flow.

Below are the takeaways from the user insights that helped me understand the priority of the task flow.

  • Creating Analysis should be primary action followed by the rest as secondary actions.

  • Statisticians needed a feature to be able to edit each analysis individually on dashboard.

  • Need an easier navigation to understand the start and end point of creating analysis.

Hi Fidelity Prototype

Main Dashboard

  • Primary task: Enable users to generate new analyses with pre-coded, yet customisable, end points, models and visualisations

  • Secondary task: Allow users to access existing  and past analyses without any need for customisations

Create New Analysis

  • Steps to Benefit-Risk Analysis. Create end points, analytical models and visualisations to customise a new analysis

  • The application form is designed to reduce the cognitive load for the user by categorising it into multiple steps but also keep the journey transparent by adding a progress bar on the side to enable users to check thier completion status.

Project Learnings

Simplify Complex Flows

This project started with understanding how a Quant Application works with codesets. The flow was complex and requires analytical understanding to solve the experience. With patience and diligence I excelled in understanding how to create breakpoints, make it simpler by dividing main task to sub tasks and transfer them to an accessible interface.
